Peer specialists are trained and certified by the State of Michigan to provide peer support. As part of this study, peer support specialists will deliver a peer mentorship intervention to participants enrolled in the study.
Peer specialists will deliver the peer mentorship intervention to study participants by meeting with them on the inpatient psychiatric unit and providing regular telephone and in-person follow-up for 3 months. Peer specialists will undergo a 3-day training in the study procedures, and will meet weekly with a Clinical Supervisor. Peer specialists will also be responsible for audio recording contacts with participants and uploading audio files to be reviewed for fidelity.
Current peer support certification through the State of Michigan.
Variable. Meetings with participants are scheduled around their availability.
Variable. Participants are recruited from UM inpatient hospital and HFHS Kingswood Hospital. Peers deliver the intervention via telephone and in-person meetings with participants in the community.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
Under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
