About the Department
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations drives the fundraising and alumni relations activities of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Purpose
The Lead Director, Annual Giving will create, direct, and implement Annual Giving programs for the Ross School of Business. In addition, s/he will be the point person for the collection, management, and reporting of data that support the Annual Giving team's fundraising goals. Create and manage strategic plans, objectives, timelines and evaluations for various components of the Annual Giving program for donors with giving levels up to $25,000. Direct all associated marketing and fundraising, serving as the lead liaison with University Annual Giving, Reporting Information Analysis, and the Office of University Development. This team member serves as the lead for data management and analysis for all direct solicitations, including those conducted by mail, email, and phone. Manage associated marketing, creative, and mailing budgets. This position also supervises the corporate relations program and staff, with the directive of increasing corporate financial support to the school.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Stewardship & Development Operations.

Responsibilities*

 Annual Giving and Fund Management

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the school’s Annual Giving program.
  • Responsible for the performance and growth of the Annual Fund both in donors and dollars through creating acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Develop a coordinated communication and solicitation strategy involving email, direct mail, web interfaces, multi-media and phone focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support.
  • Serve as liaison with internal academic areas for annual gifts.
  • Integrate Annual Fund participation asks within existing Major Gift strategies.
  • Provide staffing and support for key volunteers including boards, advisory committees and campaign volunteers.
  • Create strategies to use volunteers and other structures to increase Annual Fund revenue.
  • Develop an Annual Fund branding strategy.
  • Create, manage and execute core stewardship efforts and programs in coordination with the Donor Relations team.
  • Represent the Ross School of Business Annual Giving program with peers internal and external to the organization.
  • Manage budget for Annual Giving.

Data Analysis

  • Manage segmentation, targeting, and analysis for all Annual Giving appeals, including direct mail, email, and phone program.
  • Maintain and refine the Annual Giving Dashboard as the primary tool to inform data-driven decision making.
  • Manage the process for peer school benchmarking and reporting, for both the peer school group of top business schools and Target Analytics. 
  • Use statistics and data analysis to evaluate the Annual Giving program and make recommendations to meet annual fundraising goals, campaign goals, increase annual giving, revenue, and participation.

 

 

 Staff and Relationship Management

  • Manage the corporate relations staff and program.
  • Select, supervise, develop and evaluate assigned staff; establish and model performance expectations and standards to foster a positive, high-service, and innovative culture. Provide leadership for the training and motivation of staff in order to make full use of individual capabilities and to meet the unit's growth and demands.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years professional experience in a relevant field with increased responsibility and project management required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven success in the following areas: fundraising, data analysis, marketing, communications, statistics, alumni relations, public relations, volunteer management, or sales.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, direct and manage significant program initiatives. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (particularly in Excel) and database applications, i.e. Tableau, Business Objects, and CRM
  • Successful demonstration of initiative, organizational skills, team orientation and commitment to customer service. 
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Demonstrated managerial and team leadership skills are essential
  • Proven ability to successfully interact with a diverse group of people
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with volunteers and to direct and promote complex projects. 
  • Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently and to exercise initiative.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desirable
  • Previous experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: higher education, event planning, and logistics and in University systems, policies and procedures.
