Job Summary

If you enjoy abstracting complex cases, challenging work and a solid career path, then there has never been a better time to join the Cancer Registry Team at Michigan Medicine. The Cancer Registrars at Michigan Medicine are data information specialists, capturing the complete history, diagnosis, treatment and health status for every cancer patient treated at the Rogel Cancer Center.  Data collected by the Cancer Registry Team is a primary source to support research, understanding cancer incidence, mortality and treatment outcomes.

Position Overview

  • Abstract all new cancer diagnoses and/or other reportable neoplasms within the cancer registry database according to established criteria from Michigan Cancer Surveillance Program (MCSP) and the American College of Surgeons – Commission on Cancer (ACoS-CoC).
  • Perform casefinding and patient follow-up activities using established workflow
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and other clinical staff to obtain complete clinical information

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications

  • An Associate’s Degree with experience in all aspects of cancer registry operations and cancer program standards
  • Required – Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) from the National Cancer Registrar Association
  • RHIT or RHIA with CTR – preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a cancer registry

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
