Job Summary

The College of Pharmacy is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry to serve in the laboratory of Prof. Heather A. Carlson.  The Carlson lab focuses on computational studies of protein-ligand systems, from the basic biophysics of molecular recognition to applied inhibitor discovery. 


The successful candidate will develop new features of Carlson’s Binding MOAD database (  The current focus is adding polypharmacology functionality through chemical similarity and binding-site similarity.  The candidate will have to help maintain and augment all aspects of the website and the backend database.  The candidate will also participate in the curation of protein-ligand binding data.  The candidate will be expected to write and edit scientific papers.  The position reports to Prof. Heather A. Carlson of the College of Pharmacy Department of Medicinal Chemistry.

Required Qualifications*

·       PhD degree in computational chemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, or a related field

·       Strong programming skills are required, preferably in python, perl, or C++

·       Knowledge of protein structures, binding sites, and biochemistry is required


Desired Qualifications*

·       Strong writing skills are highly desirable

·       Familiarity with MySQL, LAMP architecture, and/or Natural Language Processing are strengths
