Job Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan to join a collaborative research team investigating the neural differentiation potential of induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSC) from individuals with Bipolar Disorder. The goal of the project is to identify the molecular and cell biological mechanisms underlying Bipolar Disorder. iPSC are derived from clinical subjects with extensive phenotype data from a longitudinal study of Bipolar Disorder at the UM. The selected candidate will work with an established team to generate and characterize neuronal and glial cells differentiated from iPSCs, determine their gene expression profile, and responses to culture perturbations, and medications.


The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, collaborative scientist who will interact well with the research team and be involved in the design, performance and analysis of the experiments. Additional training opportunities include assistance in preparation of publications, opportunities to present data locally and nationally, and student supervision.

Required Qualifications*

Candidate must hold a MD and/or PhD in Neuroscience, Developmental, Cell or Molecular Biology.

Desired Qualifications*

Preference will be given to applicants with extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, strong molecular biology skills, good communication skills, and documented success in research. Scheduling flexibility and weekend work is required.
