Responsibilities*

  • Serve as an ambassador for the dean and SON to individuals, groups, and organizations internal and external to the University
  • Provide administrative support for the dean
    • Manage dean’s calendar, schedule and prepare meeting agendas, and make meeting arrangements for dean, e.g., reserve room, order food/beverages
    • Make travel arrangements for dean
    • Assist with faculty and staff searches
    • Record and disseminate minutes for Executive Committee, Nursing Advisory Board, Leadership Council, and other meetings as assigned
    • Assist with written, telephone, and electronic communications
    • Extend hospitality to all visitors
    • Create and distribute SON e-holiday cards
  • Assist dean with faculty appointments, annual evaluations, LEO major reviews tenure, promotion, and post tenure  reviews
    • Track faculty evaluation and review timelines
    • Coordinate  tenure and promotion reviews with faculty,  faculty review committee, executive committee, and provost’s office
  • Create biannual SON newsletter
    • collect potential articles from faculty, staff, alumni, and students
    • create layout, edit, print, and distribute electronic and print copies to internal and external constituents
  • Create communications, agendas, and make arrangements for visiting scholars and guests
  • Coordinate SON communications, meetings, and events with University executive officers and appropriate staff
  • Coordinate acknowledgement and thank you letters on behalf of dean, e.g., University Advancement (Development/Alumni Relations, Foundation/Corporate staff)
  • Independently write selected communications on behalf of the dean (congratulatory messages for dean’s list and award recipients, employment and graduate school recommendations, references, and related letters for students and alumni
  • Conduct research on behalf of the dean, then summarize findings for reports and other administrative and development purposes
  • Provide assistance to dean with grant applications and submissions for internal and external funding
  • Coordinate special projects to fulfill SON mission and strategic plan
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

    Required Qualifications*

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years’ prior executive level experience in higher education, business, or related field
    • Bachelor’s degree in in English, communications, or related field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience required
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience using technologies and software programs such as Microsoft Office, desktop publishing  
    • Accuracy in communications
    • Professional, poised, & able to handle confidential information
    • Ability to relate to others in a collegial, cordial manner
    • Ability to multi-task and keep pace with the needs of a busy, active office
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills

    Desired Qualifications*

    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Prior experience in a university setting preferred
