The Undergraduate Education Division of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA), in collaboration with its Center for Global and Intercultural Study Program (CGIS) in the College of LSA is seeking to hire 1 lecturer for the Fall 2018 Term to teach UC 275, Global and Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU) . The candidate will provide classroom instruction to undergraduate students participating the GIEU study abroad program. The course will carry 11.11% effort in the Fall Term.
This course serves as an introduction to intercultural learning and teamwork, required for undergraduates participating in the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates Program. Topics covered include self-assessment, cross-cultural adjustment, learning in diverse settings, developing intercultural competence, team formation and development, intercultural communication and leadership skills. Interactive learning in the course includes peer-facilitated discussions, reflective exercises, and project development.
Lecturers are expected to attend course meetings, hold office hours, and handle routine matters related to instruction.
Masters degree in field related to intercultural study and advanced knowledge of intercultural theory and skill development. The candidate must have experience working effectively in multicultural communities and teaching diverse groups of undergraduate students with experiential pedagogy.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
