A full-time research assistant/lab manager position is available in the Brain Behavior Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Michael Vesia and Dr. Sean Meehan. The successful applicant will conduct work involving neurophysiological and behavioral procedures in both healthy adults (ages 18-75) and patient populations (e.g. post-stroke and Parkinson’s), recruit participants, and perform data collection and data analysis. The lab uses diverse research approaches, including neuroimaging, noninvasive brain stimulation, physiological and behavioral methods in order to achieve a detailed understanding of how multiple brain regions work together to carry out motor and cognitive function.
Experience in electrophysiology (EMG) and/or neuroimaging (e.g. fMRI, EEG), or behavioral tests, or noninvasive brain stimulation techniques (e.g. TMS, tDCS) in humans is desirable, though not necessary as training in these techniques will be provided. Experience in instrumentation and programming (e.g. MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++) is a plus.
Include, but are not limited to:
- Recruiting and scheduling participants
- Frequently communicating with students about routine laboratory techniques and procedures
- Assisting in behavioral and physiological assessments
- Data collection and data analysis
- Remaining in a stationary position during data collection
- Constantly positioning self to install equipment, including under desks
- Routinely moving laboratory equipment up to 50 pounds
- Routinely traveling to various locations on campus to conduct data collection
- Handling interactions with the Institutional Review Boards
- Preparing figures, purchasing, and advertising
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biomedical or rehabilitation science or related field (e.g. physical therapy, kinesiology, neuroscience or psychology)
- Previous laboratory or clinical experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- Clinical experience working in a rehabilitation setting is an asset
- Strong technical skills (e.g. data analysis and/or programming)
This is a 1-year term-limited position with the potential to extend based on funding and performance.
