Job Summary

To perform activities relating to the obtainment of timely, complete and accurate patient-specific medication information (histories, lists, prescription drug coverage information, etc.); improvement of patient access to oral medications through the resolution of access barriers, both financial and otherwise; and to assist patients in navigating through the medication use process, clinic appointments and care transitions.

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English. Strong communication skills, professionalism, ability to work well with members of an interdisciplinary team, and ability to provide service excellence are also required.

Required Qualifications for Intermediate Tech:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is desirable.
Current licensure that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements is necessary. This includes:
• A temporary pharmacy technician license (valid for 1 year and is non-renewable) or a full pharmacy technician license upon hire.
• A full pharmacy technician license before the temporary license expires.
Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
This position requires primary source verification.

 

Required qualifications for Pharmacy Tech Associate:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is desirable.
Current licensure that meets the State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements is necessary. This includes:
• A temporary pharmacy technician license (valid for 1 year and is non-renewable) or a full pharmacy technician license upon hire.
• A full pharmacy technician license before the temporary license expires.
Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.
This position requires primary source verification.

Desired Qualifications*

A minimum of 2 years of pharmacy technician experience in an outpatient pharmacy setting and completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable.

Demonstrated record of excellence with direct patient interaction, collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, insurance claim adjudication, prior authorization facilitation, and prescription processing in a retail pharmacy setting is also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.

Work Locations

This is a day shift position. This technician will spend 100% of their time working in the East Ann Arbor Geriatrics Clinic.
