Responsibilities*

Duties include provide complex clerical support to a fast-pace dental practice; answer telephones; triage calls and messages; Serve as the referral/authorization coordinator or scheduler (typical callers are referring physicians, dentists and patients). This individual must have the ability to explain information clearly to patients, dentists, students and staff regarding procedure codes and insurance inquiries. Coordinate or schedule patients. Maintain and update schedules based on change in availability of dental and other professional staff. Collect patient payments using established guidelines; charge entry; reconcile cash collections daily according to specified clinic standards. Cover front desk for co-workers scheduled and unscheduled absences which at times may require work ing extended hours with little notice. Mentor, orient and support new staff and faculty and assist with on-the-job training. Develop, along with lead, standard work. Obtain proper insurance address and documentation to insure correct charges. Obtain insurance approvals using established insurance company guidelines. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

High School diploma or GED, 3 - 4 years of experience working in a general dentistry or other type of medical office with knowledge of basic medical or dental terminology, and prior experience performing complex scheduling and financial counseling for patients. General knowledge of office practices and obtaining medical records.  Excellent customer service skills, exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as a team player with ability to take direction and communicate with team and patients courteously and respectfully at all times.  Demonstrated excellent communication skills and information technology skills.  Energetic individual, motivated with a positive and professional attitude with an excellent ability to multi-task and work in a high volume area.  Excellent organizational skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent attendance record. Flexibility required in all aspects of work assignments. 

Desired Qualifications*

Experience working within a large, complex health care setting, familiarity with MiChart or MiDent, and knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Additional Information

This is a 60% FTE or 24 hour apt.  The prorated salary range is $20,400-$26,400
