Job Summary

The Program for Research on Women's Health and Disability (PROWHD) in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is currently seeking a Research Area Specialist Associate. This is a full-time, regular position located at the department offices on E. Eisenhower Parkway in Ann Arbor. The employee will work under the supervision of the principal investigator and program manager. 

Responsibilities*

  • Assist in managing the day to day operations of clinical research studies involving persons with physical disabilities. 
  • Assist investigators in screening and recruiting eligible participants using established research registries, medical record review and community outreach. 
  • Perform informed consenting with participants, conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection activities (e.g., focus groups, interviews), manage study data using electronic resources (e.g., REDCap), and develop and implement data quality control measures. 
  • Ensure that all interaction with research participants and record keeping are in strict compliance with IRB regulations; manage IRB applications, amendments and continuing reviews, as directed by supervisor and investigators. 
  • Other responsibilities include administration of the project and ensuring clear communication between collaborating centers located throughout the US, and other activities in support of the research program. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in a social science related field
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Prior experience working and interacting with research participants in a clinical or clinical research setting 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with study subjects who have physical disabilities 
  • Comfort talking about sensitive health issues with study participants 
  • Highly motivated, organized and independent person with demonstrated multi-tasking ability and meticulous record-keeping skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Software proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint) 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s Degree in social science related field
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities in clinical, research or community settings
  • Experience conducting research interviews 
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research 
  • Experience using MiChart, eResearch, REDCap, and NVivo

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Work Locations

Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor.

Additional Information

This is a term-limited appointment ending May 30, 2020. From date of hire through the end of the projects. At the end of the stated term, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
