As a System Administrator Senior within Ross IT, you will work with and lead other Administrators, as part of a collaborative team.  Provide a creative and strong operational foundation grounded in next practices.  Create forward thinking technical strategies, positioning Ross IT for the future and continued alignment with the Ross mission. Drive change through strategy, organization, collaboration and delivering outcomes that further the vision of Ross IT.

Infrastructure Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and drive creativity through evaluation and analysis of current and new technologies, creating technical strategies, alternate solutions and outcomes, which align with Ross IT and Campus.

  • Stay current with new infrastructure and support technologies.

  • Collaborate and represent Ross IT with campus IT and other units to find technical solutions, solve problems, align services that are progressive and aligned with the Ross IT vision.

  • Serve as representative on various campus working groups, collaborating with others to drive and create partnered outcomes, which go beyond the current boundaries.

  • Provide leadership in vendor management, through collaboration and oversight of vendor activities and their service delivery.

Administration & Maintenance

  • Manage and perform the day to day operations of the infrastructure, including maintenance, monitoring system performance, patching, backups and disaster recovery, utilizing processes and procedures.

  • Install, configure, and maintain server infrastructure (Windows & Linux, VMWare) in accordance with IT policies and procedures: Includes DNS, DHCP, and application server infrastructure.

  • Install, configure and maintain associated servers and platforms such as Drupal, and Lamp Stack for our web infrastructure.

  • Manage and maintain Active Directory, including, accounts, groups, rights and security.

  • Perform change management through the documentation of configuration and production changes in Ross IT change log.

  • Work with Ross IT teams and other Administrators to support, maintain, evaluate, and design an imaging process that is agile, progressive and positioned for future technologies.

  • Provide and maintain an accurate infrastructure equipment lifecycle that is proactive and drives equipment replacement.

  • Provide proactive service delivery, which utilizes monitoring, trend analysis, capacity management, and support methodologies.


  • Provide leadership involving the security and compliance strategy for the school. That includes data, infrastructure, policy and procedures.

  • Collaborate with key personnel within the department and University to ensure Ross is in aligned with university compliance standards and applicable standard practice guide policies.

  • Conduct regular hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure they are in compliance with the established security requirements set by the IIA group.

  • Monitor and report network activity involving the firewall, DL, threats and attacks and create and execute action plans to secure environment.


  • Work closely with and provide Tier-2 support to Desktop and the AV Infrastructure teams.

  • Provide instruction, technical advice and general computing support to the community.

  • Prepare and maintain documentation including, management reports, system architecture, and maps and gap analysis.

  • Collaborate and gather requirements from technical teams to enhance functionality, security and capabilities within the infrastructure that are aligned with the Ross IT and campus.

Required Qualifications*

·         Bachelor’s degree and 5 years relative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         Experience with networking, TCP/IP, DHCP. VLans, WiFi, Firewalls, Switches and Routers

·         Extensive experience Implementing, maintaining and supporting server platforms such as Windows, Linux, Drupal, Lampstack, and IasS, VMWare, and VDI.

·         Experience with scripts, including powershell, VBScripts and others.

·         Demonstrated troubleshooting, problem solving and project management skills. Experience with methodologies such as agile, ITIL and devops.

·         Demonstrated leadership, communication, teamwork, collaboration, organizational and interpersonal skills both in technical and customer situations.

·         Ability to work autonomously, in teams, exercise good judgment, take ownership, collaborate for a common outcome.

·         Passion and creativity regarding the adoption of existing and new technologies, especially those that enhance the instructional and research environment

Desired Qualifications*

·         Experience with Cloud technologies

·         Experience with equipment lifecycle development and execution

·         Experience with monitoring tools- Intermapper, Splunk

·         Experience working in higher education
