Are you motivated and skilled in enabling the learning of others?  Do you want to work in an environment that is dedicated to providing learning and growth opportunities to over 30,000 faculty and staff?  If so, we invite you to consider being part of Education and Training.  As a division within Health Information & Technology Services (HITS), Education and Training is responsible for services and technology that support education and research programs in the Medical School, as well as supporting on-going learning in all hospitals and clinics within Michigan Medicine. These services are administered through the design and delivery (classroom and electronic) of professional development training, end user documentation, and support for applications such as the Epic electronic health record and mandatory eLearning education. Education and Training also supports foundational systems, such as the institutional learning management system (MLearning), along with other tools that support the medical education degree-granting programs and continuing education.

 

The Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) Education & Training team at Michigan Medicine is seeking an Instructional Designer to analyze, design and develop training for applications, technologies and IT services. Examples of projects include Epic, Network Security, Call Center software, ServiceNow and related processes/workflows. The Instructional Designer works with the application or technical teams to develop and implement the training program. Training solutions primarily include classroom training lessons, tip sheets and some elearning/video scripting and development.

Responsibilities*

Duties include:

  • Master the application functionality, technology or service and the associated workflows including obtaining/maintaining any required certifications.
  • Work with subject matter experts, operational departments and HITS team members to perform analysis, identify training needs and obtain approval of training plans and materials.
  • Select appropriate training methods, design, develop, evaluate and continuously update all training materials (lesson plans, tip sheets, eLearning scripts, job aids, assessments and surveys).
  • Build, test, and maintain a training environment as applicable.
  • Train and credential classroom trainers from within the organization and/or contractors to assist with end-user training.
  • Monitor and evaluate training and coach as needed to ensure quality.
  • Assist in supporting training and go live activities as part of implementations and ongoing including handling support tickets and other customer requests.
  • Train classes as necessary.

This position reports to the Instructional Design Manager.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor's degree or better in information systems, education, human resources, a healthcare related field or significant equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of professional experience in instructional design and adult learning, preferably focused on classroom or technical training.
  • Experience training trainers and end users.
  • Excellent skills in: needs analysis, writing, technology and training.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent time-management and self-directed work style, including the ability to meet tight fixed deadlines

Desired Qualifications*

  • 10 + years professional experience in instructional design.
  • Advanced education/degree in instructional design or similar.
  • Experience with InDesign, Snag-It, Articulate Storyline or similar.
  • Certification in Epic.
  • Experience in a healthcare related field.
  • Project Management experience.
