BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a highly motivated individual to support our research team as a Data Analyst. This individual will take the lead on management, processing and interrogation of large datasets such as health, biosocial, and economic data using a variety of statistical software packages such as SAS or Stata. Essential duties include using SAS/Stata or other relevant software to create analytic files by merging multiple large databases, formatting, recoding and sub setting data as needed. Experience in SQL is also desired.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
*Create, manage, manipulate and analyze large health data using statistical software.
*Develop an analytic plan for specified research questions and aims.
*Write the data analytic methods sections for grant proposals and manuscripts.
*Participate in preparing publications and grant applications.

Education and Experience:
*A Master’s degree in applied mathematics, statistics, health informatics, applied economics or related field; higher – level degree preferred.
*Minimum of two (2) years of programming, data management and/or analytics experience.
*Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
*Demonstrated expertise in managing large and complex datasets.
*Demonstrated experience in using statistical packages like SAS and Stata to manage data.
*Direct experience with managing and analyzing healthcare data.
*Knowledge of RDBMS/SQL relational databases as well as non-relational databases.
*Knowledge of other statistical software packages such as R.
*Experience with national health survey data and complex survey design methods.
*Excellent computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint.
*Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
*Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.
*Excellent problem solving capability; exceptional critical thinking, analytical and research skills.
*Able to work independently with minimal supervision and maximum collaboration in a team environment.
Hours: Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

Salary Range: Salary is commensurate based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. We encourage all interested parties meeting requirements to apply.
