The University of Michigan Animal Care and Use Office (ACUO) is seeking an experienced administrative support specialist. This is an ACUP entry-level position, and provides the selected candidate excellent opportunities for growth within the profession of ACUP oversite.
The primary responsibility of the selected candidate is to coordinate and facilitate select Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP) activities, and may provide general support to other research compliance committees and the ACUO. The position requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing high priority tasks. The individual will report to the ACUO Assistant Director-Compliance Administration.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Plan and coordinate all activities associated with the IACUC inspection of U-M animal care and use animal housing and support areas;
- Interpret inspection findings, and develop initial drafts of inspection reports and associated documents;
- As it relates to inspection findings; communicate the IACUC’s correction expectations and ensure they are satisfied in a timely manner;
adatabases associated with the U-M animal care and use protocol submission and management system;
- Provide specialized support (e.g., meeting scheduling, minutes, document preparation, trainings) to other U-M research compliance committees; and
- Other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A strong professional work ethic emphasizing on initiative, teamwork, dedication, and dependability;
- A demonstrated ability to independently manage, problem solve, and prioritize time sensitive responsibilities and/or confidential information;
- Outstanding organization skills with the ability to pay attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse custom base (e.g., faculty, staff, students and visitors);
- A strong analytical ability to consistently summarize and analyze ACUP data;
- Excellent customer service skills especially verbal and written communication skills; and
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other calendaring and email software.
- Knowledge of standards (e.g., Guide, AWAR, and PHS Policy) governing the use of vertebrate animals in research, teaching or instruction; and
- A passion for the highest animal welfare standards in scientific research and education.
