Responsibilities*

Our Medical Assistants in Neurology work with patients who are being seen for issues or potential issues relating to their nervous system. The nervous system regulates and coordinates body activities, which can be related to the brain, spinal cord, or other sensory receptors such as the eyes, ears, or skin. In Neurology you will be responsible for medication review, vital signs, injections, performing and/or assisting with simple procedures, collecting and processing specimens, sterilize/clean equipment, stock rooms, deliver information to patients as directed, and overall maintenance of patient care area and flow within the clinic.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Associate

  • 1 - 3 years of experience

Assistant

  • 0-1 years of experience

Based on qualifications and department need, this position can be filled as a Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant Associate.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

 

Work Schedule

The facility is open 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Saturday. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts.

Physical Requirements

You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

Training

As part of the orientation training process, your training will be held at multiple locations during your first few months of the employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on you upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
