The Byrd Laboratory is currently seeking a Research Lab Technician Lead. This position will be joining an exciting, NIH-funded laboratory under the supervision of an involved faculty member.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform independent research, keep accurate records of experiments, analyze data for publication, and present results to Principal Investigator
• Execute, develop and improve assays such as RT-qPCR, in vitro transcription, immunoblotting and ELISAs
• Assist in the implementation of new molecular techniques in the laboratory
• Provide assistance with the training and supervising of students as well as other support personnel in molecular and cellular biology
• Laboratory management/supervision, ordering laboratory reagents and supplies, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Maintain OSEH safety requirements in the lab
• Administrative duties such as overseeing and keeping records of laboratory purchases; coordinating with Principal Investigator on budgetary issues
• Assist in the development of laboratory policies and procedures
• Participate in laboratory meetings and journal clubs
• Provide technical support according to overall project goals as developed by the Principal Investigator
• Set up equipment and materials for experiments
• Maintain laboratory inventory and research equipment
• Work in collaboration with Principal Investigator on other projects as needed
• Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, or related health science field
• 2 to 3 years of experience in basic laboratory research and a demonstrated ability to execute the duties described above
• Excellent interpersonal, communicative, and computer skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment are a must
• Experience in performing RT-qPCR, immunoblotting and ELISAs
• Willingness to be trained in new laboratory techniques as appropriate to the scientific findings
• Master’s degree in molecular biology, integrative physiology, pharmacology, or related health science field
• Previous experience designing and/or performing RNA-sequencing experiments is highly desirable
• Proficiency using statistical software such as R
• The candidate's ability to maintain on-going experiments in the evening and on the weekends is highly desirable
• Experience in immunoelectron microscopy, cell culture and in vitro transcription
