Job Summary

This posting is for a part-time research assistant who will work on a groundbreaking large-scale national collaborative research project called the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study ( The ABCD study will be following 10,000 children, aged 9 and 10 at outset, over 10 years. This is the largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States. The research assistant will work with the principal investigators and other members of the research team at the University of Michigan. As the project develops, this position has potential to evolve into one with considerably more responsibility and scope.


Responsibilities include the conduct of follow-up in-person and telephone interviews with participants and collateral informants. The research assistant will undergo training on administration of the test battery and be required to meet and maintain training criteria used by all teams around the US who are part of this study. This includes administration of neuropsychological tests, clinical assessments, substance use batteries, functional and structural neuroimaging, and collection of biological samples such as hair, saliva, and blood as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychology or related field, or equivalent education and experience. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical.
  • The candidate should be comfortable discussing sensitive behaviors such as substance use with participants and their families.
  • Schedule must be flexible to allow for work on school days-off, evenings and weekends.
