Responsibilities*

This position is responsible for answering phones, calling people on the overhead, finding operating room staff, taking messages for patients, nurses, doctors, etc.  Coordinate with operating room staff to track all changes for 30 + operating rooms and several offsite locations.  Be aware of emergency issues on the floor and make the necessary changes.  Place STAT calls and follow-up with operating room personnel to make sure faculty has arrived.  Act as liaison between Anesthesia Supervisor, residents, CRNAs and technicians in the operating rooms.  Keep all faculty, residents, CRNAs and technicians informed of all changes in operating rooms on the daily schedule as well as the following day’s schedule.  Serve as back up for the OR Clerk, including assuming responsibilities when they are busy and during breaks.

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma and or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Zero to two years of office experience.  Some knowledge of medical terminology. Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Excellent phone etiquette is necessary.  Must be able to work in a team setting.  Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and meet deadlines

Desired Qualifications*

Reasonable knowledge of UM policies and procedures; high school diploma; three to five years clerical experience; preferably in a medical setting; strong verbal and written skills, demonstrated work as a team play; ability to work independently; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines; experience with Mainframe and Careweb, MIChart.  Some knowledge of medical terminology is necessary.

Ability to multitask in busy operating room setting and to work independently.  Good verbal communication skills and excellent phone etiquette is necessary.

Work Schedule

Afternoon Shift, 30 Hours, 1:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
