Job Summary

NOTE: THIS IS A 1 YEAR APPOINTMENT!

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:
To engage in advanced training and supervision to fulfill requirements for a doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. To evaluate and to treat adult students with psychological or psychiatric conditions, behavioral health issues, developmental concerns and/or interpersonal or systemic difficulties. To provide clinical consultation and mental health outreach and education to university communities.

Responsibilities*

All University of Michigan students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional school) are eligible for the services described below:
Practice and maintain documentation in accordance with the Michigan Mental Health Code, State of Michigan Board of Psychology and licensing regulations, and within the professional standards of the American Psychological Association.
Conduct clinical interviews of student clients to evaluate psychological or psychiatric conditions, behavioral health issues, developmental concerns and/or interpersonal difficulties.
Administer and interpret psychological assessment instruments.
Diagnose psychological or psychiatric conditions, behavioral health issues, and/or interpersonal disorders.
Plan treatment or intervention and select appropriate modalities and techniques.
Treat psychological or psychiatric conditions, behavioral health issues, and/or interpersonal difficulties, or address developmental concerns, utilizing various psychological techniques.
Collaborate with other health care providers (e.g. nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers).
Develop and lead crisis intervention efforts for student clients and the university community.
Consult with individuals or campus units on psychological or psychiatric conditions, behavioral health issues, developmental concerns, and/or interpersonal difficulties.
Participate in professional development activities.
Initiate or collaborate in conducting psychological research or scholarship.
Present at regional and national professional conferences.
Actively participate in the agency infrastructure (meetings, work groups, etc.)
Utilize electronic database systems to schedule, document, and inform clinical services, training, and outreach and education practice.
Design and present outreach and education programs to the university and student communities.
Create and/or distribute outreach materials (print, product, or web-based)

Required Qualifications*

Enrollment and good standing in an APA-approved academic program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
Completed coursework and a passing grade on comprehensive examinations
Minimum of 1000 hours of practica overall

Desired Qualifications*

Coursework and experience in working with diverse populations, group process, and brief therapeutic interventions are desirable.
Approved dissertation proposal by the start of internship
