Responsibilities*

This position will primarily focus on supporting the Cardiology, Pulmonary and Surgery clinics, but may be asked to support other areas as needed.

As a Medical Assistant in Cardiology, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to the heart and vascular care of our patients by providing top-quality cardiovascular care.

The Pulmonary Department accepts referrals for evaluation and treatment of patients who have or are suspected of having acute or chronic respiratory disease. As a Medical Assistant, you will help provide care for patients suffering from diseases such as COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer, or Sleep Apnea just to name a few.

As a Medical Assistant in our Surgery units, you will be a part of a team that provides life-changing treatments to patients through operations and procedures.

In these specialized areas you will perform:

  • Taking patient vitals
  • Patient intake and rooming duties in the clinic
  • Perform procedures such as EKGs and wound care
  • Document health information in the Electronic Medical Record system
  • Assist patients with FMLA, Disability and Return to Work paperwork
  • Coordinate patient flow throughout the clinic
  • Maintain, order, and assemble equipment, order clinic equipment and supplies – including medications
  • Maintain stock levels in treatment rooms and exam rooms

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Associate Level:

  • 1 - 3 years of experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

The facility is open 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Saturday. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts.

Additional Information

Training

As part of the orientation training process, your training will be held at multiple locations during your first few months of the employment.

 

Background Screening
