The Biology Department at the University of Michigan-Flint seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level starting in September of 2019.  A candidate is sought with a background in cell biology or related field.  Primary teaching responsibilities include a cell biology course (BIO 326; lecture and laboratory), an introductory biology course (BIO 113; lecture and laboratory), and a core course in the department’s M.S. in Biology (BIO 501; Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology).  Teaching responsibilities may also include an advanced undergraduate course in the successful applicant’s area of expertise.  Applicant must be willing to actively involve graduate and undergraduate students in research.

Required Qualifications*

  1. Ph.D. in cell biology or related area.
  2. Teaching experience indicating an ability to successfully teach lecture and laboratory sections of cell biology and introductory biology.
  3. Interest and expertise in teaching additional upper level undergraduate courses and/or graduate courses in area of expertise.
  4. Demonstrated experience with course and curriculum development and familiarity coordinating multi-section courses.
  5. Ability to successfully carry out a research program that will involve undergraduate and graduate students and result in peer-reviewed publications.
  6. Ability to participate in engaged service to the department, college, university, community, and scientific profession.
  7. Interest in teaching at a regional comprehensive institution aligning with department, college, and university mission and strategic plan.

Desired Qualifications*

Ph.D. in cell biology or related discipline with significant coursework and/or teaching experience indicating an ability to successfully teach lecture and laboratory portions of cell biology, introductory biology, and advanced undergraduate or graduate courses. A successful candidate  ideally will have: significant coursework and/or teaching experience indicating an ability to participate in teaching additional advanced courses as needed by the department and within the specialization of the candidate.  A successful candidate will have a research record of refereed publication demonstrating flexibility and independence and promise of continued productivity; and potential for engaged service to the University, profession and community.
