Student Internship Management:

  • Meet with students prior to beginning internship to review/discuss forms and responsibilities
  • Conduct monthly internship meetings with current interns (open to prospective interns)
  • Conduct direct, timely communication with prospective and current interns
    • Send and track evaluations to field supervisors
    • Monitor completion of internship quiz
    • Schedule internship meetings
    • Send rubrics and other requested documentation
    • Manage database (entry and tracking)
    • Manage notifications of deadlines
    • Send make up assignments
    • Meet with interns regarding final evaluation/feedback from employer
  • Assess all papers against approved checklist  for fulfillment of all required items, prior to presenting to faculty for grading
  • Maintain/update internship documentation to include policies & procedures
  • Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of the department

Internship Site Administration:

  • Coordinate with PHHS Office Manager on current and future affiliate site agreements and renewals; be familiar with all existing opportunities and requirements for each site; assure an approved and signed agreement is in place prior to placing a student
  • Work with community health related organizations to identify and develop new student  internship sites
    • Visit and approve new sites before allowing students to participate in an internship
    • Ensure legitimacy of each site (including cases where students request specific sites or to be placed at their place of employment) and that site will provide training and oversight of the intern
    • Review internship requirements with the prospective Field Supervisor
    • Train all current and new Field Supervisors on evaluation of interns to include certification and accreditation requirements
  • Monitor quality of placements and conduct site visits
  • Visit students at internship sites (minimum of one on-site for each intern)
  • Conduct post internship meeting with coordinator

Internship Information Management:

  • Maintain the student internship records;  document behavior issues, absenteeism, tardiness, inability to perform tasks/skills, lack of participation or inability to work with others
  • Maintain and develop Blackboard organizations (add new students, retrieve materials, update documentation & dates, send announcements)
  • Oversee website content regrading internships & other recruiting materials
  • Collect, analyze, & report out updated data (such as number of current interns, prospective interns in coming terms, number of current sites, prospective sites in progress, sites visited, data on public health knowledge areas, or other related data as needed)
  • Prepare placement and assessment documents on data required for certification and accreditation of related programs

Career Services and Events:

  • Maintain an active presence on the campus including attending career events
  • Conduct career preparation workshops (selecting an internship, on resume writing, interviewing skills, etc.)
  • Work with employers on current skills needed in the workforce
  • Coordinate special events, programs, receptions related to internship and employment opportunities
  • Seek out employment opportunities; connect students with potential job opportunities
  • Assist with recruiting efforts through marketing of program and internship opportunities
  • Coordinate promotional materials related to internship

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor degree in health related field
  • 3 years experience advising students 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with undergraduate and graduate students and community partners
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated self-starter
  • High organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Display flexibility and willingness to perform all tasks required

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree preferred
  • University administrative experience
  • Advising experince includes curricular prepartion for internships 
  • Experience with recruitment
