The Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology and the Michigan Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center are seeking a full time Research Lab Technician to support research in the Metabolism, Bariatric Surgery and Behavior Phenotyping core.
The candidate will carry out in vivo physiology/pharmacology experiments in rodent models of metabolic disorders. He/She will be responsible for evaluating metabolic phenotypes in these models, including assessment of whole body and organ insulin sensitivity using glucose clamps with [3H]- and [14C]- labeled tracers. In addition, the candidate will be cross-trained in other activities of the Core, in particular, treadmill exercise training and behavioral studies with rodents including assessment of locomotion activity, video tracking, testing of cognition and anxiety and operant responding.
HS Diploma or Associate Degree, with 1-2 years of relevant experience required for the intermediate level. HS Diploma or Associates Degree and 0-1 years of relevant experience is required for the associate level. Previous laboratory experience handling mice and rats is essential. This position requires a focused and highly motivated candidate who can initiate and complete assigned tasks independently. The applicant must be able to follow detailed written or verbal instructions from the Core director and other senior technicians in the Lab. This position also requires good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize assignments; and precise record keeping habits with attention to detail. Some occasional weekend work will be required. Candidate selection based upon the level of experience and education.
Bachelors degree preferred.
M-F, 8-5, with some weekends
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
