Job Summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a faculty director to lead the new Michigan Medicine Wellness Office. In partnership with organizational leadership and stakeholders, the Wellness Office Faculty Director is responsible for aligning, promoting, and expanding wellness initiatives across Michigan Medicine, building stronger coalitions, and enhancing impact and service to faculty, staff, and learners.

This position will dual-report to the Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and the Chief Human Resources Officer.

This position is 50% Director, Michigan Medicine Wellness Office and 50% faculty appointment.



  • In partnership with Michigan Medicine senior leadership and stakeholders, articulate and execute an inclusive strategic plan to move Michigan Medicine forward towards its wellness goals.
  • Foster an environment that enables innovation and change. Anticipate emerging trends and develop strategies and plans to prepare for them.
  • Establish clear objectives, metrics, and analytics to evaluate the performance of wellness programs, initiatives, and resources. Prepare progress reports, including an in-depth annual summary of activities and evaluation. Develop new programs and initiatives based on feedback and data. Utilize national benchmarks to compare performance with best practices.
  • Partner with the Michigan Medicine Department of Communications to develop and implement an outreach strategy that promotes faculty, staff, and learner wellness as an essential business component. Represent the Michigan Medicine Wellness Office to internal and external audiences.
  • Partner with the Michigan Medicine Office of Development to explore grant and philanthropic opportunities that support the organization’s wellness goals.

Required Qualifications*


  • MD and/or PhD, eligible for a faculty appointment in the Medical School
  • A demonstrable passion for faculty, staff, and learner wellness and an ability to develop a deep knowledge of the field
  • A track record of collaboration and accomplishment advancing initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and innovative; comfort with change, ambiguity, and organizational evolution in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to connect with large and diverse audiences in an engaging and effective manner
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with and communicate at the executive leadership level

Desired Qualifications*


  • Expertise in the principles and applications that contribute to faculty, staff, and learner well-being
  • Experience implementing effective assessment measures and analyzing community health data to prioritize and focus efforts
  • Experience working within a higher education institution promoting organizational wellness
