Job Summary

Patient Technology Specialists visit patients at bedside providing distraction, relaxation, and cognitive stimulation through non-HITS related educational and recreational digital media.  They educate staff and patients on how to use latest digital creative tools.  This enhances patient quality of life and hospital experiences by providing them with creative outlets and ways to interact with the world outside of the hospital.


Bedside therapeutic digital media experiences
• The Patient Technology Specialist will provide digital media experiences for patients and families in activity centers, special events, and at bedside.  The experiences may include but are not limited to traditional gaming, filming and recording, VR, AR, social media tutorials, basic toy robotic engineering (ie Kinex, Legos).
• Provide technology assistance to OT, PT, Recreation Therapy and Child Life during therapeutic interventions using VR, gaming, and creative technologies. This includes procedural support and schedule therapeutic sessions.
• Will evaluate emotional, mental and physical conditions during digital activities and provide feedback and recommendations to clinicians
• Will create programming and special events/activities for various age groups to take place in activity centers and at hospital wide events. 

Programing for Teen Room/Digital maker space
• Assist with oversight and training of volunteers, vendors, work studies, and interns in Teen Room/Digital Maker Space, video game lending cart, and VR cart.
• Provide a safe structured space where teens can learn, relax, and create using the latest in creative and gaming technology.

Research and maintenance
• Research upcoming technologies and maintain current gaming equipment including but not limited to all gaming consoles, technology in child life spaces, technology in Teen Room/Digital Maker Space, video recording and streaming technologies.  

 Educate Staff about upcoming technology processes
• Includes one on one and group presentations to multidisciplinary staff.

Required Qualifications*

  • Experience working with children ages 2-20
  • Experience working in a hospital setting with patients and families.
  • Must be personable and able to work with people in high stress situations.
  • Must have knowledge of current digital gaming hardware and software.
  • Experience with VR and AR technology.
  • Knowledge of IOS, Android, and Windows-based devices.
