We are seeking an experienced Research Laboratory Specialist Senior to manage and help oversee the scientific direction of Dr. Clifford Cho’s cancer immunology and immunotherapy laboratory. PhD-level training in a related scientific field, and experience in cancer immunology research are highly desirable for this position. The laboratory is located at the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration (AAVA) Hospital, and is actively engaged in a number of investigative efforts directed at understanding and improving immunotherapy of cancer.
The applicant is expected to independently manage aspects administrative aspects of the laboratory, participate in the design and execution of scientific experiments, and provide active input into the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications. These roles will require autonomous mastery of the following duties:
Ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory animals, supplies and equipment through the AAVA and other vendors
Maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment
Adherence to OSEH compliance of all laboratory members with regard to Laboratory and Radiation Safety, Bloodborne Pathogen use, Biosafety Level 2+ use, and Dangerous Goods shipping
Assistance in the submission and maintenance of regulatory protocols, including UCUCA and AAVA IACUC applications and amendments
Assistance in the design and preparation of new experiments
Independent execution of experiments
Data analysis and presentation
Supervision of laboratory assistants, students, and other support personnel, including oversight of training and certification
Assistance in the recruitment of laboratory assistants, students, and other support personnel
Communication and coordination with collaborating laboratory teams
Required skills for this position are:
Cell culture and lymphocyte stimulation assays
Advanced mouse techniques, including intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and intravenous injections and tumor resections
Isolation of lymphocytes from mouse tumor, lymph node, and spleen
Flow cytometry data acquisition and analysis
Laboratory management, including oversight of regulatory protocols and budgets
Leadership and personnel management skills
University of Michigan Minimum Qualifications:
5 to 6 years related experience and supervisory and financial management experience are required. Employees in this classification are required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science, or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
Master's degree or specific professional/Doctorate degree preferred.
