Job Summary

The Center for the Management of Information for Safe and Sustainable Transportation (CMISST) group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute is seeking a full-time general programmer/analyst to join a multidisciplinary team focused on gathering, linking, disseminating, and analyzing transportation and related datasets, as well as developing new statistical techniques for analysis of linked datasets.

This is a 1-year TERM appointment. The TERM position includes the possibility of extension, based on project support.

Responsibilities*

Work as part of a team of programmers and researchers to manage and process transportation datasets. This includes development web based data distribution platforms, database design, and data and metadata management systems. Develop web based applications for dataset generation and visualization. Implement data management processes and support existing data management software. Document and present programs to senior staff and faculty. Perform analyses of transportation and related datasets with faculty guidance. De-bug routine and, in some cases, more complex system malfunctions and modify programs accordingly.

Required Qualifications*

  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 2-4 years professional or equivalent programming experience. Experience in software engineering, user interface development, and database platforms is required. Qualified candidates must be familiar with programming concepts and be able to learn new languages or platforms.
  • Proficiency with: Python, SQL, JavaScript, PHP
  • Experience with web technologies and usage such as AJAX, REST, JSON, etc.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Relational database design and data management skills
  • Experience with cloud service providers (Google, AWS)
  • Experience with modern JavaScript/CSS front ends or frameworks
  • Basic Linux administration
  • Basic shell-scripting proficiency

Salary:  $55,000-$75,000 depending on experience and education
