Advises students concerning an appropriate academic schedule, academic plan, career choices, career exploration, planning and development, including internships, experiential learning, job opportunities and graduate/professional school preparation. Advises students on strategies that promote and sustain persistence and academic, social, personal, and career success. Counsels students experiencing academic difficulties, including those on probation and/or suspension. Initiates and maintains regular communication with assigned newly admitted and continuing students. Provides counseling and advising to students on rights and responsibilities. Assesses student academic, career, personal and social needs as it relates to and/or impacts student success in and outside of the classroom. Makes referrals to appropriate internal and where necessary external services including financial aid, tutorial support, psychological and testing services.
Develops, implements, coordinates and assesses retention and student outreach programs dedicated to student academic and career success.
Establishes, nurtures and sustains positive and collegial relationships with academic departments. Serves as liaison to assigned academic, student services and administrative units.
Participates and serves on university committees, commissions and task forces.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor's degree in counseling or related field
Minimum of 3 years of academic advising or counseling experience

Masters degree in counseling, higher education or related field strongly preferred
4 or more years of academic advising/counseling experience in higher education
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

Demonstrated positive attitude and customer-oriented service
