Responsibilities*

The emphasis of this research position is on the recruitment and scheduling of participants, administration of neuropsychological (cognitive) tests and non-invasive brain stimulation, and data entry for research studies that examine the effects of non-pharmacologic treatment for memory deficits in older adults.  The successful candidate is expected to perform medical record reviews in order to determine participant eligibility, contribute to scheduling participants for study activities, and closely monitor participation to ensure regulatory compliance. The detail-oriented candidate must be able to operate in a semi-independent manner. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to assist with the creation of posters, papers, and presentations for scientific meetings as well as to perform other scientific administration (including regulatory and compliance) and clerical activities in order to support research projects, as directed by the Principal Investigator.  Experience working with an older adult population and those with cognitive deficits arising from neurodegenerative disease is preferred. Experience with non-pharmacologic interventions is also preferred. Individuals with neuroimaging experience (e.g., data analysis) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or a health science discipline.
  • Available to work some evenings/weekends.
  • Available to independently travel to, and work in, multiple locations
  • Computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point; EndNote)
  • Confident and highly motivated with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work relatively independently.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative, and effective manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, problem-solve, and prioritize duties.
  • Knowledge of or experience with database creation, management, and analysis procedures is expected.
  • Candidates must have demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and preferably statistical analysis packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, or other research laboratory programs like MATLAB and fMRI analytic programs (AFNI, FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer).

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience working with older adults and those with dementia
  • Research experience with investigator-initiated and federal sponsored trials.
  • Experience working and interacting with research participants.
  • Experience with Electronic Data Entry in ReDCap or other similar databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical trial regulations and operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA.
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology and assessment of laboratory values.
  • Ability to multi-task and sustain a high level of organization while working with several research studies
  • PEERRS or CITI Program certified.
  • Experience with neuroimaging analysis software (e.g., AFNI, FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer) or programming language (e.g., Python)
  • Proficiency in neuropsychological test administration and scoring is preferred. 
  •  Strong clinical skills and superior verbal and written communication are desired. 
  • Experience in working with both older adults are preferred. 

Work Schedule

Typically M-F 8-5pm.  However, must be willing to flex weekly hours to accommodate evening and weekend testing

Additional Information

Must have reliable transportation since local travel will be required.  Must also be willing to travel to, and perform duties in, the Detroit area (e.g., at the UM Detroit Center) based on study needs.
