The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) at the University of Michigan is pleased to announce a 2-year Postdoctoral Consultant position focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in teaching and learning. This position is an excellent professional opportunity for a recent PhD who wishes to explore an educational development career and contribute to the work of a well-established teaching center with a strong DEI focus. Candidates from groups historically underrepresented in faculty development are encouraged to apply.
In collaboration with other CRLT staff, the Postdoctoral Consultant will develop and lead workshops and programs focused on inclusive teaching; consult with individual instructors about pedagogy, course design, assessment, and other teaching-related matters; conduct midterm student feedback sessions; participate in administering grants programs; and develop written resources to be shared with instructors -- all with a focus on promoting equitable and inclusive teaching practices across a range of disciplines at U-M.
The Postdoctoral Consultant position is designed to foster skills and knowledge about pedagogy and educational development both within and beyond the DEI focus, and the successful candidate will receive mentoring from CRLT staff in multiple roles. The Postdoctoral Consultant will also be provided professional development opportunities (including conference attendance, relevant trainings, and collaboration opportunities) to help develop their skills and connect with a network of educational development professionals at CRLT and beyond.
Required qualifications for this position include: a demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, inclusion, social justice, and/or access in higher education; strong skills and knowledge base for consulting with a broad range of U-M instructors (with diverse social identities, cultural and educational backgrounds, institutional roles, and disciplines) on pedagogical challenges and strategies; strong facilitation skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team; and project management skills, including the ability to meet timelines and prioritize multiple tasks. Required qualifications for all CRLT postdoctoral positions include a completed Ph.D. degree (candidates will be considered who have a verified defense date at the time of application) and teaching experience in a university or college setting.
Formal experience in instructional consulting/mentoring, workshop facilitation experience, and a background in the humanities or social sciences.
The Postdoctoral Consultant salary is $55,000-60,000 per year. This is a full-time exempt position (with an option of working 80-100%). The position is a 2-year appointment starting as soon as possible.
