Job Summary

The University of Michigan, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) is looking for a survey specialist intermediate to assist with evaluation and assessment of educational and outreach programs of the Wolverine Pathways Program. The survey specialist will be provided with opportunities to expand his/her skill set in database management, research methodology and community research.


  • Plan and oversee data collection via surveys - including but not limited to Wolverine Pathways returning students, returning parents, new students, and new parents. This may include new survey creation and programming, such as creating participant panels, adding and editing survey questions, adding skip or display logic, setting up survey authentication if needed, etc. Survey administration includes distributing the survey to participants (via mail merge) as well as tracking who has and has not completed the survey.
  • Data processing - cleaning and merging datasets, including but not limited to checking to make sure variable names and labels are consistent, making sure responses are in the same format, and combining/merging data sets. This may require exporting data from Qualtrics or other data sources, data entry, and importing data into a statistical analysis tool (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata, SAS).
  • Database management - primarily through Salesforce. The main tasks will be to upload new participant and program data and working with Wolverine Pathways staff who collect, organize, and upload scholar documents.
  • Work with state-wide school-level data (e.g., data pulling, cleaning and merging) and Wolverine Pathways data to conduct comparative analyses where possible.
  • Coordinate with senior research analyst, programming staff, community representatives, and other institutional units in facilitating data collection and data management for projects within Wolverine Pathways.
  • Assist in identifying staffing needs (i.e., graduate and undergraduate students) and supervising these student staff in order to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner, including but not limited to Wolverine Pathways scholar transcript/GPA calculations.
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis and report writing may be required.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree with 1-3 years of experience in data collection, data cleaning and database management.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including familiarity with inferential statistical analysis such as ANOVA and regression modeling.
  • Qualitative data analysis experience is a plus.
