Cancer Center Core Histotechnologist- Specialization in Immunohistochemistry
Functional supervision may be exercised over Laboratory Assistants, Laboratory Aides, and other assigned staff.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and perform immunohistochemical staining of cells and/or tissues on glass slides. Most stains are needed for Cancer Center researchers utilizing animal models or human xenografts. Certain core stains are maintained in the lab but many new stains are worked up for individual research projects.
- Prepare specimens of frozen tissue for microscopic evaluation in order to provide information on the functioning of tissues and organs and other information relative to the cause and progression of disease.
- Maintain required records.
- Maintain quality/quantity standards of quality control.
- Maintain condition of assigned equipment, instrument and work area.
- Order and maintain supplies as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or other related science field or an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.
- Completion of a Histotechnology training program is necessary.
- HT (ASCP) certification and Qualification in Immunohistochemistry or equivalent registry is desirable.
- Previous histotechnology experience is desirable.
- This position requires frequent standing/walking, as well as lifting.
