Job Summary

To direct and coordinate activities related to the repair and/or replacement of Direct Digital Control (DDC), pneumatic and electrical control systems. 




Oversee administrative and functional supervision of 12 University of Michigan HVAC Control Specialists. 

Oversee the installation, repair and maintenance of DDC and pneumatic controls related to HVAC systems. 

Perform weekly scheduling activities for HVAC DDC Control Technicians. 

Prioritize work projects and assign tasks to ensure projects are completed in a timely fashion. 

Ensure DDC parts inventory is kept organized and up to date including the latest revisions of hardware and firmware. 

Maintain a parts inventory supply adequate for the operation. 

Document DDC project activity. 

Provide DDC support and assistance to other departments and programs. 

Work with facility engineers to ensure DDC project specifications are accurate and complete. 

Assist in providing DDC support for energy conservation initiatives across campus. 

Perform planning and system analysis to ensure DDC components meet installation and ongoing operation requirements. 

Review drawings and equipment sequences to ensure DDC requirements are met. 

Maintenance DDC project financial activities to ensure DDC projects stay within budget. 

Perform daily review of Facility Management System to ensure DDC activities are completed in a timely fashion.

Required Qualifications*

Graduation from high school.

Specialized training in HVAC systems and DDC technology is necessary.

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials related to HVAC and DDC systems is necessary. 

Considerable knowledge and experience installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC and DDC equipment is necessary.

Considerable knowledge and experience servicing DDC equipment at the component level is necessary. 

Writing software for DDC systems related to HVAC systems is necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in project management within a large organization. Ability to coordinate work activities of multiple DDC control technicians including labor assignments, parts ordering and distribution.

Strong experience and familiarity in DDC equipment specifications and component functionality.

Experience/familiarity with Siemens Building Technologies, Honeywell, Johnson Controls and ASI Controls is desired.

Supervisory experience is highly preferred.


Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 

7am - 3:30pm

As an exempt position, flexible hours are as required, but typically are Monday through Friday from 7am to 3:30pm.  Incumbent must be available for consultation or call-in to address emergency situations arising during non-scheduled hours.
