Core responsibility is to procure goods and services for all Department labs for routine, non-routine and rush orders using appropriate methods through Strategic Suppliers (M-Markesite), purchase orders, or P-Card (shortcode). This includes equipment, service contracts and sole source justification support. Analyzes prices and makes recommendations, approves all procurement invoices, acts as liaison between university departments and vendors, and identifies potential new vendors.
Use M-Reports to determine if the order is within the proper budget category and budget limit prior to placing the order, ensure compliance with budgetary and UG guidelines, submit new vendor requests as needed. Lead for using Webnow system, training new tier one level staff in labs and overseeing received status reports for PO's created.
Other potential duties may include, but are not limited to the following based on individual performance:
Monitor and update laboratory research space allocations, classifications and funding. Review and submit end of year Space Utilization report to Administrator
Manage outbound and inbound shipping of perishable research samples, urgent repairs, and other laboratory matters to US and international partners. Insure that outbound shipments are properly packaged and follow OSEH guidelines for dry ice and other hazardous materials
Liaison with UMICH Plant Operations to ensure work orders are immediately initiated and then completed in a timely fashion
Shared equipment/resources (dry ice, autoclave, dishwasher, centrifuges, darkroom, etc.) for department.
Bachelor's degree is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
2 years or more experience is required.
Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated excellent problem solving; analytical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently as well as effectively in teams; must have the ability to work comfortably with individuals at all levels.
Must reliably manage responsibilities and time effectively.
Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
Demonstrated understanding of UM's procurement systems
Demonstrated skill with MPathways
Knowledge of University of Michigan and Medical School policies and procedures as related to purchasing
Previous procurement experience
Understanding of UG guidelines and sponsored projects
Familiarity with Research Lab ordering is preferred
Previous experience with shipping in a research environment
Familiarity with facilities as relates to space survey, equipment inventory, work orders
