This serves as a notification of a 1.0 FTE MSW position with the Pediatric Congenital Heart Program. This is an ambulatory role and will work with a number of clinical teams and cardiac diagnoses in a busy outpatient setting.
The Michigan Congenital Heart Center is one of the top congenital heart centers in the nation. SW works with a large interdisciplinary medical/surgical team and a very diverse patient population. Patients come from around Michigan, across the United States, and from other countries. Patients range in age from prenatal/newborn through childhood and adulthood. SW works closely with the medical teams in all program areas of this Center.
Social Work services include but are not limited to the following: crisis intervention, family support and counseling, liaison and referral to community agencies, as well as; mental health assessments; tangible resources; participation in team meetings and educational activities related to emergent needs of patients and their families.
Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary. Must have current clinical license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. Clinical practice concentration and field practicum or recent work experience in a hospital required. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in medical settings working with families and children around issues of chronic illness, loss, adjustment to illness and disability, learning/school issues and locating appropriate community resources. Given the complexity of medical diagnoses associated with cardiac disease, it is vital to have proficiency with end of life issues.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
