We are seeking a candidate to fill the position of Child Program Coordinator/Outreach Specialist for HomeFront Strong, a grant-funded resiliency intervention program for military and veteran spouses.
HomeFront Strong is an 8-week group for military/veteran spouses, grounded in evidence-based strategies. It is offered at various community mental health sites throughout Michigan and includes a parallel resiliency intervention program for children ages 0-5, 6-12, and 13-17. The Child Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and overseeing all aspects of the Child Program for HomeFront Strong, which includes recruiting and supervising volunteers who assist in the program, implementing the group activities based on an existing semi-structured content manual, and providing on-site coordination of the program with our community partners. The position will also work with our Outreach Coordinator and assist with outreach and recruitment of military and veteran spouses into the program. This will include presenting to small and large groups at military and veteran events throughout the state.
HomeFront Strong is one of a collection of programs dedicated to military/veteran mental health under the umbrella of M-SPAN (Military and Support Programs; www.m-span.org) in the Department of Psychiatry and Depression Center. The M-SPAN team is interdisciplinary, and includes representation from social work, psychology, psychiatry, public health, business, communication, and the military.
This position is funded by a Department of Defense grant awarded to Dr. Michelle Kees. This position will report to Jennifer Lamb, LMSW, MSCD.
Child Program Coordinator:
- Plan and coordinate activities for the Child Program, tailoring the existing content to the ages and number of children enrolled in each group
- Lead each session of the Child Program at various community partner sites around the state
- Recruit, train, and supervise the Child Team of volunteers as they assist in implementing the program
- Provide on-site logistical support to community partners during implementation of the groups
- Collaborate with our Outreach Coordinator to develop a strategic plan for outreach, engagement, and recruitment of military/veteran spouses into the HomeFront Strong program
- Attend outreach activities to recruit participants into HomeFront Strong
- Present at small and large events on behalf of HomeFront Strong
- Track attendance at outreach events and engagement activities
- Work closely with the project team on all aspects of project implementation
- Complete reporting requirements necessary for grant funding and institutional regulatory approval
- Support other project-related tasks (e.g., research consents, qualitative interviews, transcription, thematic coding, etc.) as requested
- Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years of related experience
- Willingness to travel and reliable transportation; Evening/weekend work required
- Experience working with children and leading group activities with children
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task within deadlines
- High level of professionalism, with a warm, engaging, and outgoing style
- Self-starter who can work independently, and can also collaborate with a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to small and large groups
- Fully proficient in PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred (supervision available for LLMSW candidates)
- Personal or professional experience with military/veteran populations
- Experience working with clinical research projects
- Previous experience supervising students or other trainees
This is a full-time position. However, strong candidates wanting less than full-time work will also be considered. Work schedule will vary, with an expectation of ~2 nights weekly for groups, and periodic weekends to attend recruitment events.
Primary location for this position will be at the M-SPAN offices in Ann Arbor (2025 Traverwood), with reimbursable travel throughout regions of Michigan to lead the HomeFront Strong Child Program at community sites and to attend outreach events.
