Job Summary

Perform the following duties for the Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative (MSQC) and Michigan Opioid Prescribing and Engagement Network (Michigan-OPEN):

Data Analysis

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources
  • Data management, programming, and analysis supporting opioid prescribing data and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth data exploration, identify anomalies (missing values, outliers, duplicates and correlated attributes), determine strategies to handle these anomalies and create a data set suitable for analysts.
  • Analyze large complex healthcare data sets to discover hidden patterns, trends, and associations using statistical, data mining, and visualization techniques to provide actionable, and timely insights into physician practice patterns for quality improvement.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation of data and analysis files.

Data Presentation/Visualization

  • Design and develop visualization tools and dashboards that convey clear, compelling, actionable insights and ideas to help impact clinical practice.
  • Provide independent and collaborative statistical, graphic design, and communications support.
  • Summarize, interpret, and present results in written, tabular and visual formats for reports, manuscripts, and presentation.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas, analytical findings and conclusions to a large range of technical and nontechnical audiences at all levels of the organization.

Engage with teams/stakeholders

  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, trainees, programmers, analysts, and statisticians in the organization to design and deliver innovative projects and promote data-driven decision making.
  • Participate as an active team member in discussions on analysis and improvement of data sets, quality of data analyses, programming and documentation.
  • Work with vendors to develop and document new reports, and validate and troubleshoot analytic discrepancies with vendors.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health, computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with Stata, SPSS and/or SAS, database management and statistical analysts.
  • Experience across a variety of visual communication and design tools, with fluency in the Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar.
  • Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results, as well as create charts, tables, and other visual aids.
  • Ability to be consistently and extremely detail-orientated.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term limited appointment with the potential of extension, based on grant funding and performance. At the end of the stated term, the appointment may terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.

Background Screening
