Job Summary

The Project Manager for Marketing Communications provides a wide variety of high-level professional support to the Marketing and Communications team within the School for Environment and Sustainability by providing leadership and management for cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives. In addition, this position is responsible for partnering with the Director of Communications to create, execute and evaluate a comprehensive internal communications plan. This is a professional position that requires strategic thinking, cross-team collaboration and execution, and exceptional communication skills.

The Marketing and Communications team prioritizes collaboration and communication in order to achieve the highest levels of both efficiency and effectiveness. We pride ourselves in being one of the top marketing and communications units on campus, and as the new school looks to grow its incoming class and elevate its brand, we are currently building out a new communications function to meet the evolving needs of the School for Environment and Sustainability. This newly created position will play a pivotal role in the organization—key to enabling our strategic and project partnerships. This role will report directly to the Director of Communications and Outreach.


  • Use project management software to organize and track the progress of the Marketing and Communications work.
  • Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and reports to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Assist in the creation of new projects, updating overall project status or changing requirements when appropriate.
  • Keep all stakeholders apprised of project timelines, due dates and status.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules and ensure that team members (video, web, social media, etc.) have the time and bandwidth to complete projects within defined timelines.
  • Help coordinate between in-house communications functions, including graphic design and editorial teams.
  • Coordinate day -to- day updates, details, and follow through on projects underway while also being responsible for weekly status updates within the Marketing and Communications team and to the units.
  •  Participate in and facilitate project meetings.
  • Manage and assign incoming project requests.
  • Develop best practices and processes for project intake and workflows in partnership with Director of Communications.
  • Act as the liaison between the units, faculty, and Marketing and Communications, working to determine deliverables, timelines and manage partner expectations.
  • Manage consensus among stakeholders with disparate viewpoints and priorities.
  •  Interface with external vendors, partners, software partners and on and off campus advertising outlets.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables.
  • Route all copy, artwork, and printer proofs as requested and ensure that all work completes the standard approval process before being reviewed by clients or turned over to suppliers.
  • Complete audit, evaluation metrics report, and assessment of results for each project.
  • Set up and maintain digital and print productions and archives for completed projects.
  •  Benchmark, create, execute and evaluate a comprehensive and user-centered internal communications program in partnership with the Director of Communications and Communications Manager. This program will work to ensure that all members of the SEAS community are communicated to in a timely and meaningful manner in order to grow and enhance the mission and brand.
  • Provide additional team support and coordination as needed or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of project management experience to include responsibilities requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, prioritization, troubleshootng, and working both independently and within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to lead project teams to meet customer expectations and deadlines.
  • The candidate will need to be results and detail-oriented, highly organized and in possession of strong anticipatory instincts and have excellent follow through.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and ability to create and maintain effective relationships as well as collaborate and motivate at all organizational levels.
  • It is critical this position be able to work effectively under multiple competing deadlines.
  • Experience with Google (Docs, Spreadsheets, Mail, Calendar), Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and project management software, such Asana or other similar tools.
  • Experience in designing and implementing internal processes to ensure quality and repeatable project management.
  • Experience working with vendors.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior experience in project management for marketing and communications functions or agencies, and/or experience working on project management and internal communications in a complex, matrix organization.
  • Project management certification.
