The Pediatric Specialty Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the clinical home for children and families seeking care across multiple pediatric subspecialties at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The primary mission of the ACU is to partner with our doctors, nurses and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Patient Services Assistant. This individual will share our priorities which include: high quality medical care, excellent customer service, safety of staff and patients, efficiency, employee satisfaction, stewardship of resources and the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.
Provide clinic operational support to the Pediatric Specialties, practice in a pediatric ambulatory care clinic setting. Participate in a rotation of all jobs including check-in, check-out, cash collection, cash reconciliation. Jobs include direct public contact, detailed complex patient scheduling via the Cadence scheduling system, coordination and scheduling of outside referrals and diagnostic testing, cash collection via the Cadence/EPIC. The position includes the responsibility of verifying accurate insurance, guarantor, primary care and referring physician information. This candidate will be responsible for verification and updating accurate patient demographic information. All verification and updating duties must be performed in real time, during the patient visit either directly by the Patient Services Assist or via assistance from the Registration Department. Individual must maintain an excellent rapport in person or via the telephone with patients, faculty, and staff, within a team setting. Participate fully in the Lean in Daily Work (LIDW) model of continuous quality improvement.
- High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
- 0-2 years of experince.
- Clerical experience, preferably in a medical setting is necessary.
- Basic experience and understanding of computer and e-mail systems.
- Must have a solid knowledge of general office practices and ability to understand medical documentation, coding and diagnosis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to manage stress effectively.
- Ability to work well within a team setting.
- Demonstrated active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
- Experience with pediatric population.
- Solid understanding of computer systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in Medical Terminology.
- Associate Degree in a related field.
- Clerical experience in medical hospital/office setting.
- Previous experience with MiChart Cadence/Epic system.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Experience working within a large, complex healthcare system.
