The Department of Materials Science & Engineering seeks an Engineering Technician to perform a wide range of technical and engineering related duties maintaining equipment such as induction melting and heat treating furnaces, mechanical testing, metallography and other materials science related characterization equipment. The Engineering Technician will report to the Facilities Manager and will work collaboratively with other engineering technicians in the Department and College.
This position is responsible for training users, including undergraduate and graduate students, on proper use of laboratory equipment. The person in this role will be responsible for repair, maintenance and safe operation of the laboratory equipment in the department of materials science and engineering. The Engineering Technician will participate in continuous process improvement efforts and assist other team members as needed.
Associate’s degree in Materials Science &Technology plus two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of students and colleagues; demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively as part of a team; ability to follow projects through to completion and meet high work standards; demonstrated ability to work under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities; attention to detail; ability to function productively in an ever-changing, high-stress, fast-paced environment; must be supportive of, and participate in, change initiatives to improve service, efficiencies and/or productivity; excellent attendance and dependability are essential.
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field plus four years experience.
