Job Summary

The Division of Internal General Medicine seeks a Research Associate to work in close collaboration with a principal investigator (PI) and other research staff. The RA will work on a project (s) focused on patients with pain, addiction, and/or opioid misuse.

 

Responsibilities*

The RA will assist in designing and carrying out research, including the following tasks:

  • Conducting survey calls to various types of treatment clinics
  • Interviewing research subjects, both on the telephone and in person
  • Developing survey tools and focus groups materials
  • Entering research data and managing databases
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed study records
  • Coordinating payments to research subjects
  • Proofreading and otherwise helping to prepare research-related documents
  • Coordinating research activities with any project partners, both within and outside the University

Throughout the project, the RA will be expected to act in accordance with all relevant human subject regulations, identify potential problems and, in collaboration with the PI, help resolve those problems.

 

NOTE:  This position is term-limited for two years with the possibility of extending based on the availability of funds and need.

 

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a social science, health science or public health focus.
  • Superb interpersonal skills – comfortable speaking with healthcare providers and patients
  • Ability to handle complex projects while managing competing deadlines is strongly desired.
  • Organize and coordinate multiple tasks with close attention to detail.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of others.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple team members (principal investigator, co-investigators on projects, project manager, other research assistants).
  • Understanding of basic research procedures, with demonstrated experience in data collection methods and research design.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Research skills such as survey development, conducting focus groups, compiling literature reviews.
  • Knowledge of best practices and strategies in recruitment are desired.
  • Experience in developing and executing research or evaluation programs is preferred.
  • Academic or professional experience in working with vulnerable populations and/or sensitive health issues is strongly desired.
  • Experience with the IRB process would also be helpful.
