The Biomedical Engineering librarian works to advance the services, initiatives, partnerships, and strategic agenda designed to advance the institution's research enterprise. The individual will engage deeply with faculty, researchers, and students primarily affiliated with the university’s biomedical and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) communities, including the College of Engineering, the health sciences schools, and other related academic, clinical and research programs.   • Cultivates new models of engagement and builds partnerships between the library and biomedical engineering academic and research communities.

  • Develops and promotes new value-added library services, resources, and programs to advance biomedical engineering research, education, and practice.

  • Provides effective and innovative instruction and consultation on the use of information resources and research practices.

  • Provides consultations to biomedical engineering faculty, researchers, and students at each stage of the research life cycle, on topics such as research data management, scholarly publishing, grant development, and research integrity.

  • Partners with faculty by actively contributing to research proposals and projects, curriculum development and delivery, and evidence-based decision making.

  • Monitors biomedical research landscape to evaluate and recommend information sources, specialized technologies, and tools to meet the research needs of the biomedical engineering community.

  • Participates in relevant continuing education opportunities in both librarianship and biomedical engineering disciplines and practices.

  • Serves on appropriate committees, and participates in regional and national library professional organizations and associations.

Required Qualifications*

  • A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information sciences program and experience working with biomedical engineers, engineers, life scientists, or health sciences professionals in an academic or research environment; or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience working in a biomedical engineering, engineering, life sciences, or medical field.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication (oral and written) skills.

  • Familiarity with scholarly communication and academic publishing practices in engineering, life sciences, or medicine.

  • Evidence of skills needed to foster new connections and build relationships to advance the goals of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously and effectively manage several complex projects and respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.

  • Understanding of diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of literatures, research methods, and data management best practices in biomedical engineering.

  • Relevant work experience in an academic library, or in a role providing professional outreach and service.

  • Experience developing and delivering student-centered instruction.

  • Experience with expert searching including systematic reviews.

Additional Information

Appointment is anticipated at the Associate Librarian or Senior Associate Librarian rank. Salary and rank are dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the Library's process for librarian promotion and advancement.

The target salary ranges for this position are $62,000 - $68,000 per year for the Associate Librarian Rank and $68,000 - $75,000 per year for the Senior Associate Rank.  Final salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
