Job Summary

The Office of the Registrar is seeking an energetic and tech savvy Business Systems Analyst to become an expert in UM Oracle/Peoplesoft student information system data and the related business processes. This position will identify specific student populations for administrative and research related communications, support the ad hoc student data needs of the campus community, assist with official institutional/state/federal reporting, and contribute to ongoing NCAA student athlete academic eligibility certification. The best candidate is aggressively analytical, exceptionally concerned with data quality, and has the ability to work and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.


  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of MPathways/Oracle/Peoplesoft production student information systems and related business processes, student reporting data sets, and campus wide student reporting needs

  • Coordinate student administrative and survey research targeted email with stakeholders and ITS. Administer Proper Use policies and create population files for each email. Assist ITS with defining requirements, testing, communication, and training for system enhancements

  • Assist in generation of official University term enrollment, graduation rate, and degree reports

  • Assist in generation of federal IPEDS reporting and state HEIDI reporting

  • Assist the Associate Registrar and Athletics Compliance  with student athlete academic eligibility certification and NCAA reporting

  • Develop data visualizations of institutional data using Tableau and other tools as needed

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2-3 years of experience of related experience, specifically report/query writing, business and systems analysis

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to handle moderate to complex data manipulation

  • Working understanding of relational database technologies, query tools, and data analysis skills

  • High level of proficiency with MS Access and Excel

  • Ability to meet deadlines with excellent attention to detail

  • Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively with team

Desired Qualifications*

  • Positive customer service-oriented attitude

  • Knowledge of the academic operations at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

  • Experience with Oracle/Peoplesoft Student systems.  Working experience with a combination of PeopleSoft Query, Business Objects, and Tableau

  • Experience with SQL Developer

  • Knowledge of FERPA and other state and federal laws related to higher education
