Job Summary

The University of Michigan Child OCD & Anxiety Disorders Program (COAP) is accepting applications for a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship. COAP conducts federally-funded clinical trial research using functional magnetic resonance imaging, EEG and EMG. Both the fMRI and neurophysiological research examines how cognitive behavioral therapy modulates networks underlying reactivity to threat and anxiety regulation in children and adolescents with OCD and/or anxiety disorders. EEG and EMG are also used to test engagement of the same networks before and after a novel effortful control training intervention in clinically anxious preschoolers. The expected impact of these projects is an improved understanding of brain networks relevant for early onset anxiety, enabling therapy sensitive to illness stage and appropriate targeting of networks by brain stimulation and/or cognitive training techniques.


The position provides the opportunity to join a very active group pursuing mechanistic and translational research in psychiatric disorders in adult and pediatric populations using a variety of brain mapping modalities (fMRI, MRS, DTI, ERP), brain stimulation paradigms (TMS, tDCS, DBS) and behavioral interventions (CBT, cognitive training). Primary responsibilities will be data analysis and write-up for neuroimaging studies designed to identify neural mechanisms of treatment effect in clinically anxious or OCD-affected youth.  Research, training, education, and mentorship are offered in the context of the PI’s lab. 

Required Qualifications*

This position is for a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship (PhD required). The ideal candidate will have background in clinical neuroscience, strong data analytic and writing skills, and be prepared to contribute to the write-up and dissemination of study findings.  Candidates may possess a degree in psychology (clinical, developmental, cognitive or social) or neuroscience.

1) A copy of your Curriculum Vitae;
2) Three letters of recommendation, including one from your Graduate Program's Director (to attest to your readiness for graduation), one from a primary supervisor, and one from someone who can address your preparation for advanced training;
3) A graduate school transcript (unofficial is acceptable);
4) A detailed cover letter, in which you describe your background in child clinical translational research,. Indicate what you would hope to gain from this fellowship and how that relates to your future career goals;
5) Two writing samples, including a professional publication
