Job Summary

A post-doctoral position is available in a dynamic research laboratory in the Department of Radiology at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan. Our laboratory is led by Dr. Stefanie Galban, and is surrounded by a rich research environment at the Center for Molecular Imaging (CMI) and the Rogel Cancer Center. The mission of the group involves establishing and developing mouse models of various malignancies recapitulating human disease to develop novel therapies, including gene therapy and imaging technologies. Our goal is to motivate and train postdoctoral fellows across disciples to address new and challenging problems in cancer and develop novel therapies. Ongoing projects include investigating the mechanisms of molecularly targeted and immune-based therapies utilizing imaging in cell culture and mouse models, in particular the lethal pediatric brain tumor ‘Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma’ (DIPG). Our research is especially focused on targeting cancer stem cells in pediatric gliomas. These studies are performed in a highly collaborative research environment with leading experts in oncology and imaging, as well as industrial partners. Our team seeks a post-doctoral researcher to join efforts in accomplishing these goals with at least two years of availability and with the appointment to commence in the beginning of 2019.

  • 20%- Imaging experiments
    • Conduct multi-modality imaging studies in mouse models of various cancer
    • MRI, CT, Bioluminescence and Fluorescence imaging
  • 10%- Technical
    • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write summary reports and findings
    • Prepare manuscripts and presentations for publication

Required Qualifications*

Highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a MD/PhD or PhD background in cell and molecular biology, signal transduction, CRISPR gene editing, RNA sequencing and a record of research excellence as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and scientific productivity. A flexible schedule is also required to accommodate times for animal imaging and varying treatment schedules. The candidate needs the desire and motivation to apply and translate research from cells to animal models using in vivo imaging techniques, and he/she must work well in a team of multidisciplinary researchers. The candidate must have excellent organizational and communications skills in English and competence in word processing and spreadsheet software.
