Job Summary

The Michigan Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a Statistician to join our team. The faculty and staff of our department are dedicated to providing outstanding, state-of-the-art, evidence-based care for musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. The department’s service-excellence philosophy is founded on the goals of exceeding expectations and having every interaction leave a lasting, positive impression.

MARCQI is a group of orthopaedic surgeons and medical professionals dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement procedures in Michigan. Our objective is to promote a state-wide consortium for the collaboration and sharing of “best practices”. By collecting and analyzing data, and then reporting results back to the providers, quality improvement initiatives are implemented.

MARCQI is the coordinating center collecting and analyzing multi-sites observational data. This position supports various statistical activities for quality improvements, quarterly reports and state-wide collaborative meetings, under the supervision of faculty biostatisticians, depending on level of experience.

MARCQI is one of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan funded quality initiatives focused on hip and knee replacement.

Responsibilities*

  • Prepare data sets for bio-statistical analysis
  • Interact with other team members to understand analytical needs
  • Gather data, perform statistical analysis and interpret a wide variety of health data.
  • Prepare reports, tables, graphs and other visual aids
  • Document analysis code and results.
  • Perform complex systems analysis and programming tasks requiring SAS techniques.
  • Assist in preparing regularly scheduled and ad-hoc analysis and reports according to defined time frames

 

Required Qualifications*

*Bachelor’s degree in public health (biostatistics, epidemiology, etc), information technology or a related field.

*Proficient ability to use SAS Programming language, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.

*5 (lead title) or 3 (senior title) years of systems analysis /programming (SAS)/database in a business environment setting; Strong knowledge and experience with SAS, including advanced knowledge of data step processing, SQL, macro languages. 

*Strong knowledge and experience in survival analysis, mixed effect models, logistic regression models, power analysis, visualization tools, etc. 

*Ability to work independently with excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. 

*Positive attitude and a willingness to see what needs to be done and volunteer to do it.

*Must be able to work effectively and diplomatically with faculty, staff and sites under a variety of circumstances; strong multi-tasking ability with propensity to adjust for changing priorities.

*Ability to set priorities; handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and to display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner. 

*Discretion when dealing with highly sensitive information and a focus on customer service are essential.

*Accuracy when dealing with schedules, with attention to detail and strong follow-through a must, as well as demonstrated well-developed organizational skills. 

*Ability to work in the UM financial systems CONCUR, M-pathways, P-card reconciliation. 

*Ability to work in a team-based setting. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative to accomplish project-based work. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to multi task and prioritize effectively.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience providing administrative support in a University or Healthcare setting
  • Complex database management experience preferred
