The Michigan Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a Database Analyst Programmer to join our team. The faculty and staff of our department are dedicated to providing outstanding, state-of-the-art, evidence-based care for musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. MARCQI is a group of orthopaedic surgeons and medical professionals dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement procedures in Michigan. Our objective is to promote a state-wide consortium for the collaboration and sharing of “best practices”. By collecting and analyzing data, and then reporting results back to the providers, quality improvement initiatives are implemented.
MARCQI is the coordinating center collecting and analyzing multi-sites observational data. This position supports various data management and analytics in quality improvements, ad-hoc reports and state-wide collaborative meetings, under the supervision of faculty biostatisticians, depending on level of experience.

* Prepare routine and ad-hoc reportsfor a medium sized (and growing) database.
* Coordinate the data files from multiple sources (Ortech, MIDB, device library), perform data merging and quality checking, generate data quality reports using SAS (data steps, SQL, Macro, visualization tools), e.g., Look for duplicates, missing data etc. before preparing reports.
* Knowledge of statistics, patient matching
* Prepare data sets for bio-statistical analysis.
* Use Microsoft access, excel and SAS programs
* Archive reports and maintain a history of reports by date
* Assure data integrity and security by backing up data on a regular basis
* Upload reports to M-Box
*Document the steps in the process of development of reports so analysis can be replicated.
* Assist in preparing cost analysis and other reports according to defined time frames.
*Bachelor’s degree in public health, information technology or a related field.
* Database management experience.
* 3-5 years of systems analysis /programming (SAS) in a business environment setting.
*Ability to work independently with excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
*Positive attitude and a willingness to see what needs to be done and volunteer to do it.
*Must be able to work effectively and diplomatically with faculty, staff and sites under a variety of circumstances; strong multi-tasking ability with propensity to adjust for changing priorities.
*Ability to set priorities; handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and to display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner.
*Discretion when dealing with highly sensitive information and a focus on customer service are essential.
*Accuracy when dealing with schedules, with attention to detail and strong follow-through a must, as well as demonstrated well-developed organizational skills.
*Ability to work in the UM financial systems CONCUR, M-pathways, P-card reconciliation. Ability to work in a team-based setting. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative to accomplish project-based work. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to multi task and prioritize effectively.
- Master’s degree preferred
- Experience providing administrative support in a University or Healthcare setting
- Database administration experience preferred
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
