About American Culture: Created in 1935, American Culture was one of the first formal programs in American studies in the nation. 45% Curriculum/Class Schedule

  • Assist Associate Chair to develop and coordinate processes to collect course preferences and offerings.

  • Collect, organize, and complete data entry for the department’s curriculum/time schedule.

  • Maintain curriculum and course offerings; support student registration processes, including overrides, withdrawals, enrollment management.


30% Administration:

This position will work closely with the Associate Chair to facilitate:

  • Lecturer personnel activities, including administrative support for hiring, teaching observations, annual reports, interim reviews, and major/continuing reviews.

  • Support faculty awards processes.

  • Mentoring activities as well as piloting/ongoing support for professional  development initiatives aimed to support diverse and interdisciplinary tenure-track faculty.

  • Support and administration of manuscript workshops.

  • Compile data and statistics, facilitate student and program surveys.


20% Student Services

  • Provide administrative support for Associate Chair and Undergraduate Committee, including calendars, meetings, agendas, and follow-up.

  • Facilitate major and minor revisions; submit Program Approval Request Forms (PARFs).

  • Provide back-up support to Undergraduate Assistant for undergraduate program activities, including major/minor declarations, advising calendars.

  • Monitor undergraduate pages of website for updates.

  • Provide support to departmental advisors as needed, including advising and audit issues.


5% Special Projects/Customer Service

  • Participate as an effective member of department team.

  • Provide back-up support to reception/front office

  • Other duties and projects, as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma or commensurate experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to set priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and to display excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and proofreading.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Power Point as well as Google is required.
  • A positive, can-do attitude.
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive information and a focus on customer service are essential.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience.
  • One to three years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Familiarity with university systems, policies and procedures.
  • Student Services background and knowledge of LSA Policies.

Additional Information

The target salary range for this position is $40,000 to $50,000 (full-time rate). A higher salary may be possible for exceptionally qualified candidate.

The position will begin on/around July 8, 2019.
