Responsibilities*

Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. Work with other institutions in formulating technical solutions on data integrations.

Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs. Programs such as DataDirect application suite. Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities. Experience working with databases. May be responsible for completion of a phase of a project.

Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced analyst/programmers. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.

 

Supervision Received: Direct supervision is received from Clinical Application Services Director

Required Qualifications*

Programmer Intermediate:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science/relevant degrees or its equivalent experience
  • Health system experience is desirable
  • Strong organizational, presentation and written communication skills
  • Strong and effective communication skill
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, internally and externally
  • Ability to act effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility to meet changing priorities.
  • Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. Able to interact effectively with customers and other team members.

 

Programmer Senior:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science or relevant degrees + 3 years of IT experience
  • Master's degree in Computer Science/relevant degrees
  • Database experience is desirable
  • Health system experience is desirable
  • Strong organizational, presentation and written communication skills
  • Strong and effective communication skill
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, internally and externally
  • Ability to act effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Flexibility to meet changing priorities.
  • Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
